It maybe recalled that while the concession agreement between the MMC and Fomento was signed on February 1, 2011 and the foundation stone for the project was laid on October 2, 2011, the MMC handed over the final clearances, including the construction license to Fomento on January 6, 2012 and the plant was scheduled to have been ready in 17 months.
It is to be noted that the new SWM plant has a design capacity of 80 TPD (tonnes per day) and is built on a Design, Build, Own, Operate and Transfer (DBOOT) basis for a period of 25 years, at a cost of INR 7.31 crore to MMC.
“The plant is now ready in all aspects and operations have already started. All this time, we had wholly concentrated on the waste treatment plant. Since the plant is in place, what’s left is only the work on the landfill site,” said Fomento Green CEOn Sridhar Kamat.
