VASCO: Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) has decided to write to Goa State Urban Development Authority (GSUDA) to take back the sweeping machine.
After Herald highlighted about the sweeping machine gathering dust in the municipal garage at Vasco on Monday, the council in its meeting on Tuesday decided to write to GSUDA to take back the machine, which is occupying space in its garage.
However, Vasco MLA and KTC Chairman Carlos Almeida urged MMC Chairperson Fiola Rego to move a note giving details of the sweeping machine like when it was bought and why it was lying idle and unused in the municipal garage so other councillors know the facts.
Chief Officer Agnelo Fernandes and Rego informed the councillors that as per the records, the sweeping machine was allotted by GSUDA without taking the council into confidence.
“As per the records, the machine while sweeping the roads used to cause a lot of dust which used to enter shops and other residential area. The machine also used to make noise, irritating shopkeepers and residents in the city,” informed Fernandes.
Councillor Shekar Khadapkar stated that the council should demand compactors and trucks. “For the first time, the council got a sweeping machine without demanding which cannot be used,” added Khadapkar.
Rego informed the council that she will write to GSUDA to take back the machine which is lying unused and occupying space in the garage.
