The Margao Municipal Council on Wednesday inspected the clogged Old Market water nullah and found to its shock that the water channel was blocked at some places along its stretch, emitting foul odour.
MMC Sanitary inspector, Viraj Arabekar attributed the water clogging to the ongoing work at the ring road site and disclosed plans to take up the matter with the concerned authorities.
He said the Civic body will have to engage JCB machinery to desilt the nullah given that the water channel is blocked at many points.
The Citizens Welfare Committee had complained that the nullah is blocked at many points due to discharge of plastic waste and sewage, resulting in fish mortality.
MMC Chairperson Savio Coutinho had deputed Civic officials to inspect the nullha and submit a status report on the situation.
