MARGAO: Margao Municipal Employees and the Municipal administration are heading for a show-down on the bio-metric finger scan readers.
While Chief Officer Deepali Naik has withdrawn the muster rolls from Friday, employees reiterated that they will not record their attendance on the bio-metric finger scan readers come what may on Friday.
The employees, at a meeting held this evening, vowed not to use the bio-metric finger scan readers, notwithstanding that the civic body has withdrawn the muster rolls from today.
A defiant general secretary of Goa Municipal Employees Association, Anil Shirodkar informed that all employees will attend to their duties on Friday but vowed not to use the finger scan readers. “All the employees will report for work as normal. But we will not record our attendance on the bio-metric finger scan readers. Let the Chief Officer stop us from reporting for work for not recording our attendance on the finger scan readers and we will then chalk out our future course of action”, Shirodkar said.
The association had last week warned of a pen-down or tool-down strike if the MMC withdraws the muster rolls but Shirodkar said they will take appropriate action if the civic body marks them absent.
MMC Chief Officer Deepali Naik said she has already issued a circular withdrawing the muster rolls from tomorrow. “Appropriate action, including marking the employees absent, will be taken if the employees fail to use the bio-metric readers. The DMA has given the civic body the go-ahead signal to implement the bio-metric readers”, she added.
