PANJIM: CRC Chinchinim marched into the finals of All-Goa Matanhy memorial inter-village football tournament organized by Velsao Villagers Association defeating Clube Sao Minguel de Taleigao 2-1 in a fast paced encounter at Dt T B Cunha complex, Cansaulim.
The Chinchinim lads did not take much time to settle down and came in with their plans cut out. The CRC twins Jolex Fernandes and Jorex worked in tandem and ripped through the Taleigao defense and found striker Tunard Fernandes who on sheer speed beat the ageing defender Anthony Pereira of Taleigao and sent a crashing shot into the nylons to forge ahead in the fifth minute.
Taleigao worked out some sweat and retaliated and found the equalizer through hardworking Randall Dias.
After the lemon time, the teams played an attacking brand of soccer with the supporters backing them. CRC’s winning goal was had the stamp of class with Benson sending a crisp through ball on the right flank which speedy Johnston Ribeiro chased and controlled to send a powerful grounder that beat the entire Taleigao defence and the goalkeeper.
Taleigao tried hard to find the equalizer, attacking through Thomson Fernandes, Randall Dias and Cedric Peixoto. However, CRC goalie Soyen Fernandes showed great anticipation and poise to thwart all their moves.
CRC Chinchinim await the winners of the other semi-finals between Wilred SC Curtorim and Verna Sporting tomorrow. The finals will be played on Sunday, for a cash prize of Rs.50,000.
