MAPUSA: The Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) on Tuesday held a special meeting to discuss and decide on the construction of administrative building, proposal for a zero wet waste solution and procurement of forklift.
MMC Chairperson Ryan Braganza listened to the suggestions and recommendations put forward by the councillors.
The MMC has adopted a resolution to install a mini composting plant in the Mapusa market area to put an end to the garbage woes. The plant would be used to treat fish, meat and other wet waste. As part of its proposal for a zero waste solution, the MMC has allotted Rs 9,000 as expenditure towards installing the mini composting plant which would treat approximately around two tonnes of waste generated in the municipal market.
Braganza said with the installation of this mini composting plant, the garbage in the market would be reduced.
“The need to pick up waste from the market will be reduced to a great extent. Rs 9 lakh will be sanctioned towards the purchase of a forklift under the 14th Finance Grants,” Ryan informed.
It was revealed that the tendering process for the construction of the administrative building is on but there is no biding yet. The MMC had earlier allotted Rs 2.92 crore approximately for the said work which has now been revised. The fresh amount approved for the construction of the said block is around Rs 3.24 crore.
