MARGAO: Defence Minister, Manohar Parikar on Saturday said that Prime Minister, Narendra Modi has laid heavy emphasis on non-conventional energy including solar energy to meet the country’s energy requirements.
He was speaking at the inauguration of the concentrated solar thermal technology based integrated solar heating system for laundry application at the Lakaki dry cleaning unit at Dicarpale-Navelim.
“We should exploit energy from the non-conventional energy sources, including solar energy. During my tenure as chief minister, I had taken the initiative in respect of wind and solar power, but we were faced with the issue of costing,” he said.
Parrikar said Rajasthan offers ample scope for the commercial utilisation of solar energy, adding that solar panels can be erected all along the border areas to generate electricity.
Prime Minister Modi has drawn up an action plan laying emphasis on non- conventional energy sources, said Parrikar.

fuel may last for the next 50 years, while coal may exhaust within 200 years. “Nearly 80 per cent of our fuel requirements are met through imports. If we generate even one per cent of energy through non-conventional sources, we will save money to the tune of crores of rupees,” he added.
