MOIRA: The tenant verification committee of Moira panchayat kicked off its verification drive from Bambordem ward of the village on Tuesday. The committee verified 13 houses on the first day.
After persistent demand at the several gram sabhas by the Child Committee and villagers, a tenant verification committee was constituted with social activist Florence Mendes as its chairperson.
During the drive, the verification committee explained to the tenants the importance of undertaking tenant verification and encouraged them to do so.
Owners who rent out their villas, flats and other premises will be requested to fill up or update their police verification forms at the earliest.
The drive was supported by Bambordem panch Pooja Chari. Mapusa PI Tushar Lotlikar also deputed the beat police for the tenant verification drive in Moira.
To ward off criticism, the tenant verification committee has said that it is not interested in knowing the amount of rent collected by the owners; its concern is the safety of women, children and senior citizens and to make Moira free from crime committed by migrants.
