The issue of monkeys entering villages and causing damage to crops and houses was raised in the Goa Legislative Assembly by Dr. Chandrakant Shetye.
Shetye highlighted incidents reported in Latambarcem where monkeys have been entering residential areas and damaging arecanut, banana and coconut crops, besides creating disturbances in houses. He sought details of the steps taken by the Forest Department to prevent wild animals such as monkeys from straying into villages.
