PANJIM: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Goa Police, which arrested six bookies from Candolim Sunday night has not ruled out the involvement of more persons in the IPL spot-fixing case, officials said. The crackdown has been part of pan-India raids.
Paresh Asarpota, Ketan Chawda, Ritesh Patel, Amit Papat, Sandeep Asarpota and Nikunj Lalan, all aged between 30 and 45, and hailing from Mumbai were arrested from a villa they had rented for Rs two-lakh a month and remanded to five days police custody.
“The investigations are on. We can’t rule out further arrests,” SIT head Vishram Borkar said. Borkar said the team is interrogating all the six bookies.
Among the seized materials, 46 mobile phones, four laptops and registers are crucial for the investigation as the contact numbers fed in it will disclose more people involved in the cricket betting syndicate.
Experts are being roped in to decode symbols and other information from the confiscated articles. The SIT is also in the process of registering an offence against Gurgaon-based Sushant Chabra, owner of the bungalow for allowing the bookies to use the premise for illegal activity. An officer said, Chabra will soon be summoned to Goa for questioning.
