VASCO: The Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) will soon start issuing notices to all illegal structures in its jurisdiction.
According to sources, Mormugao Municipal Council recently completed 95 percent of a survey that was aimed at identifying legal and illegal structures in its jurisdiction. The survey report states that 31,272 structures exist in the MMC’s jurisdiction, out of which 27,099 are legal as the owners have produced documents of the same.
However, around 4,173 structures were built without permission from the authorities, including the MMC. In January, the MMC will issue notices to the owners of such structures, giving them 15 days to produce their documents, failing which the MMC will issue demolition notices to them.
Sources also informed that most of these illegal structures are in Mangor, Mangor Hill, New Vaddem, Baina, Khariwado and Shantinagar in Vasco.
Incidentally, the State government has taken a decision to regularise illegal structures. How much this decision will help the people of Vasco, only time will tell.
