VASCO: The Mormugao Municipal Council earned a revenue of Rs 1.03 crore from the annual Saptah fair that started at Vasco from August 10.

Mormugao chairperson Girish Borker on Friday told mediapersons that it was for the first time in many years that Saptah fair was not granted extension and despite of it, the council earned highest revenue from during the 125th year of Saptah festival.
According to Borker, last year the council had collected around Rs 97 lakh and had set a target to collect more than Rs 1 crore this year. It was a record this year that the Saptah fair received tremendous response from the devotees and people and the council achieved its target within seven days of fair.
Borker refuted the allegations of vendors that the council had charged high rates from them to meet the revenue target. Around 1,000 stalls were permitted during the seven-day Saptah fair and the council gave each of them a good opportunity to earn while it also generated income from the fair.
