VASCO: After Mapusa and Margao, the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) on Wednesday passed a resolution to implement recommendations of the 7th Pay Commission for the Municipal employees.
The decision, which was passed unanimously at the ordinary council meeting, will now be forwarded to the Directorate of Municipal Administration (DMA).
In another important resolution, MMC also resolved to comply with the directions of the State administration and to regularize the services of daily wage workers who have completed five years of service under MMC.
Speaking to reporters after the council meeting, Chairperson Deepak Naik said though the council wanted to implement 7th Pay Commission for the municipal employees, however, due to the financial implications the council was unable to take any call.
He said that around Rs 30 lakh additional funds would be required to disburse salary to workers which the civic body would try to generate. He however requested the government to release additional salary grants to the MMC to meet such additional expenses.
Commenting on the regularisation of services of daily wage/contract workers who have completed five years of service, Naik said, “This was a very important resolution taken today. Actually, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar and Urban Development Francis D’Souza had called for a joint meeting of Council chairpersons and chief officers recently and during the meeting, Parrikar shorted out several issues faced by the civic bodies including decision on regularizing services of workers.”
Naik said that council unanimously cleared the proposal for beautification and development of Maimollem Lake made by Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida.
“As per the proposal, Almeida has already got financial sanction from the government to develop and beautify Vaddem lake by constructing a road/walking track/jogging track/pathway around the lake and hence the council today approved the same,” Naik added.
In addition, the issue of the dilapidated condition of the municipal school building with a leaking roof, MPT’s eviction notice to the residents of Bodga and Jetty in Headland Sada, converting six remaining wards out of total 25 wards as open defecation free zone and then to declare the city/town as open defecation free were discussed.
