Mormugao officials take stock of situation

VASCO, SEPT 23 Mormugao Deputy Collector Levinson Martins and DySP Mahesh Gaonkar on Thursday conveyed a meeting of various religious groups and committees from Vasco to discuss law and order in the wake of Ram Janambhoomi-Babri Masjid case verdicy, which has been postponed to Septmebr 28.

Mormugao Deputy Collector Levinson Martins and DySP Mahesh Gaonkar on Thursday conveyed a meeting of various religious groups and committees from Vasco to discuss law and order in the wake of Ram Janambhoomi-Babri Masjid case verdicy, which has been postponed to Septmebr 28.
To ensure communal peace and harmony among various communities, religious organizations convened the meeting at Janata Vachanalaya Hall, Vasco.
Urging the people to maintain secular fabric of the town, Mormugao Municipal Council Chairman Shekhar Khadapkar, Martins and Gaonkar urged to take preventive measures so that anti-social elements do not take advantage of the situation after the verdict.
“It is important to ensure that law and order is not disturbed with the fallout of Allahabad High Court verdict and ensure that people assistance is required to maintain peace and harmony in the taluka,” said Martins.
Vasco PI Braz Menezes, Mormugao PI Nigle, Verna PI Jivba Dalvi, Sancoale Deputy Sarpanch Ramakant Borker, former Chicalim sarpanch Anacleto D’Souza, Councilor Arnold Rego, Vishaw Hindu Parishad office bearer Shrikant Dhargalkar, Tahir Daud Carol among others were present for the meeting.
The Apex Court has stayed the verdict, which was supposed to be delivered on September 24.
