PANJIM: Auxiliary Bishop of Maputo, Dom Tonito Francisco Xavier Muananoua, has called on Goans to strengthen ties with his diocese by contributing their efforts to the community in Mozambique. Speaking at an event at Panjim Church on Monday, he released the Parish News Bulletin, ‘PAUNDDE/STEPS’, in the presence of Parish Priest Fr Walter de Sa and other clergy members.

Marking a special moment, Bishop Muananoua celebrated his first-ever English Mass since his ordination. The service was followed by an interactive session with parishioners, where he expressed his appreciation for Goa’s enduring ties to Portuguese heritage. He noted with joy that many Goan families still converse in Portuguese, and some younger members are learning the language for career prospects.
Encouraging greater collaboration, the bishop extended an invitation to Goan priests to take part in exchange programmes, facilitating pastoral work between the clergy of Goa and Mozambique. He mentioned the success of such efforts, highlighting the example of a Delhi Archdiocese priest currently serving in his diocese.
Bishop Muananoua also praised the vibrant Goan community in Maputo, commending their contributions to society while maintaining their cultural identity. He invited more Goans to consider visiting or working in his diocese, fostering mutual understanding and shared growth.
