MARGAO: Endorsing the view of Archbishop of Goa and Daman Filipe Neri Ferrao on CAA/NRC/NPR, South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha on Monday said the government is “distracting” people’s attention away from the abysmal economic conditions, for which he blamed the BJP and pleaded for withdrawing the CAA/NPR/NRC in its current form.
Sardinha said, “The recent statement by the Archbishop where he urged the government to revoke CAA, which is on the basis of religion invoking that India has always believed in “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, which means the whole world is one family. The Archbishop has always refrained from publicly making any political statements unless he perceives that the issue involves threat to the values of our country and our Constitution.”
“Instead of reaching out to the Archbishop, the BJP has responded through former MP of Goa who in his tweet stated: “Archbishop says that #CAA should be withdrawn as it is being opposed. My question is why? When crores of people are supporting #CAA, including Goans,” Sardinha quoted.
“The country is fed up with this BJP tactic where they use the silence of crores of people as an approval of their policies. In fact, it is just the opposite. The people of this country are suffering as a result of BJP’s failed policies such as demonetisation and badly implemented GST. At that time, the BJP used to say people are supporting demonetisation. Today, everyone can see how people have lost their jobs and shut down their businesses. They don’t have the time nor the money to come out to protest, as they used to when the country was doing well under the Congress regime,” he said.
