Mumbai rains claim another life as tree crushes 63-year-old man in Kurla

Mumbai’s relentless monsoon claimed another victim on Sunday after a 63-year-old man died when a tree collapsed on him in Kurla West, officials said. The deceased, Yunus Kundawala, was walking through the Naupada area when the tree suddenly fell, leaving him critically injured. The incident was captured on CCTV cameras installed nearby.Kundawala was quickly taken to Fauzia Hospital, but medical staff declared him dead on arrival. The accident occurred amid heavy rainfall that has battered Mumbai over the past several days, increasing the likelihood of trees collapsing due to waterlogged soil and strong winds.Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) personnel reached the site shortly after the incident. Civic workers removed the fallen tree and carried out trimming operations to eliminate any immediate danger to commuters and nearby residents. The tragedy adds to concerns over public safety during the ongoing monsoon season, which has already caused flooding, traffic snarls and damage to infrastructure across Mumbai. Authorities have stepped up monitoring of vulnerable trees and emergency response measures as rainfall continues.Residents have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rain and to stay away from trees, hoardings and weak structures that could collapse in adverse weather conditions. With forecasts predicting more rain over the coming days, civic authorities are urging citizens to remain alert and follow official advisories while disaster management teams continue round-the-clock monitoring across the city.
