VALPOI: Nagargao-Sattari Panchayat has strongly objected to the Central government’s move to declare Mhadei Sanctuary as tiger reserve area in Sattari.
A large number of locals strongly opposed the move of the Central government during Nagargao gram sabha. Later, a resolution was passed unanimously to oppose the tiger reserve area in Sattari.
Adv Shivaji Dessai brought to the notice of gram sabha members the disadvantages of the tiger reserve area and how it would affect the locals when the proposal is approved. Adv Dessai further informed that government cannot simply declare the area as tiger reserve area before conducting proper survey and studies.
“If a tiger is spotted in any part of the ‘Abhiyaaran’ area, then it will not be proper or right to declare the whole area as tiger reserve area,” stated claimed Adv Dessai.
Sarpanch Vamanrao Dessai, Deputy Sarpanch Rama Kharvat, Panchas Gopika Gaonkar, Samir Joshi, Laxman Harvalkar and Ramesh Joshi also assured to extend their full support to the locals in the matter.
The gram sabha passed another resolution to re-survey the BPL persons in the Nagargao Panchayat.
