MARGAO: Navelim Gram Sabha while asking the manufacturing of plastic carry bags to be banned first also directed the panchayat not to issue any licence for the setting up of a petrol pump in the village besides also discussing garbage management in the village.
Discussing the National Green Tribunal order on keeping the village clean, the villagers demanded that instead of putting the onus on the villages it would be better if the government would first stop manufacturing of plastic bags.
If the plastic bags are not available in the market, they will not be used and the local bodies will not have the task of disposing them argued the people who observed that while the panchayat had cleaned the black spots new ones keep emerging.
NGT has asked the panchayats to convert black spots into green spots and stop garbage dumping by the road side. The villagers lamented that for every black spot that has been made green, a new spot develops elsewhere and it is difficult to keep a track of such new emerging spots.
The gram sabha while resolving to install a high mast light near the Rosary School also asked the panchayat to take action against the illegal extension undertaken by the Rosary College in the village.
