VASCO: The Chicalim Comunidade officials on Monday threatened to approach competent authorities if the Navy fails to remove the board in a property near the Dabolim airport on priority.
The naval authorities recently erected a board in a property located near the airport claiming it to be a defence property. The action by the naval authorities has irked the Chicalim Comunidade officials.
It may be recalled that the huge land opposite to Dabolim Airport and adjacent to Rajhans theatre in Chicalim belongs to Chicalim Comunidade, who had agreed to give the same to Airport Authority of India to solve their parking problems.
However, in an alleged attempt to usurp the land, Navy erected a board at the site stating that the property belongs to them.  Earlier, Panchayat Minister and Dabolim MLA Mauvin Godinho had already raised objections and had assured to take up the issue before the appropriate authority.
Speaking to reporters, president of Chicalim Comunidade Caetano Mascarenhas said, “The land belongs to the Chicalim comunidade. I have read in the papers that Minister Mauvin Godinho has already condemned the act of the naval authorities. Whoever has erected the board at the site should remove it. In case, they don’t do it, then we have to follow the provisions of law, which otherwise means that we will lodge a complaint with administrator and thereafter before other concerned authorities.”
He said, “In this case, the land is not acquired by the government and whatever land navy currently holds, is enclosed by a compound wall. There is no claim by them for any portion of land outside their compound wall. Whatever is being done and if it is by force then it is a shameful attempt. We will not accept this nonsense,” he warned.
