VASCO: The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has criticised Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida for failing to complete the fish market complex and KTC bus stand, despite representing the constituency for two consecutive terms.

Addressing the press on Friday, NCP minority cell President Nazir Khan asked Almeida not to “fool the Vasco people by giving false assurances of completing the fish market and KTC bus stand” and lamented that the town has been “deprived of basic amenities and public utility projects.”
Averring that Vasco is in dire need of an administrative building, a fire station and a vegetable market, Khan slammed Almeida for failing to provide these facilities to the residents of the town.
Khan alleged that the port town has been ignored by the governments led by late Manohar Parrikar and the incumbent Dr Pramod Sawant. “Despite generating huge revenue for the State, the port town has been ignored by the government for over forty years,” he said.
Claiming that the administrative building complex was approved when NCP Goa unit President Jose Philip D’Souza was the revenue minister, Khan castigated Almeida for failing to execute the project. “The MLA has even forgotten that such a project has been approved for Vasco,” he lamented.
“Several government offices are functioning in rented premises. If the administrative building comes up, then all such government offices can be brought under one roof and this could be of great convenience to the people,” Khan said.
Later, NCP Youth President Pritam Naik said, “Vasco was a well planned town, but over the years with not much development the port town has become an unplanned village.”
“Why the fish market is yet to see the light of the day? Why is the pilling work of the KTC bus stand taking four years?” he asked.
“The MLA is making false promises of restarting the fish market and bus stand project and completing it expeditiously,” he maintained.
