PANJIM: The consumer rights movements have created awareness among people and it has gained importance and has rooted among people, said Secretary (Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs)Sanjit Rodrigues, IAS.

Rodrigues was addressing a function held to celebrate National Consumer Rights Day organised by the Department of Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs at the Institute Menezes Braganza hall, Panjim on Monday.
Speaking further Rodrigues stressed the need to reach consumer rights movement at the grass root level said it has been noticed that the incidents of fraud and cheating are on the rise. People are cheated right in front of their nose. It has therefore become necessary to educate and spread awareness among people about their consumer rights, he said.
Rodrigues pointed that the government had enacted various laws to protect the rights of the people which was not sufficient because people equally had to respond and cooperate. The celebration of National Consumer Rights Day was an occasion for us to renew our commitment towards the cause of protection of rights of consumers, he reiterated.

A magazine on landmark Judgements for the year 2023 brought out by the Goa State Consumer Commission was released at the hands of Rodrigues.
Earlier, Director of Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Jayanat G Tari welcomed the gathering.
Goa State Consumer Commission President Bela N Naik, Goa Civic and Consumer Action Network (GOACAN)coordinator Roland Martins, consumers, students, staff of the Civil Supply and Consumer Affairs Department and others attended the function.
