New houses on Mayem evacuee property will be razed, warns CM

Says people should not then hold the govt responsible for demolition of such houses; disburses 225 sanads to evacuee property occupants; discloses plans to construct infrastructure projects on government land in Mayem

BICHOLIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday warned that if new houses constructed and sold in the Mayem Evacuee property, will be demolished.

Speaking at a programme to distribute sanads to Mayem Evacuee property occupants at Sateri temple premises, Mayem, Sawant went on to add that people should not then hold the government responsible for demolition of such houses.People building such houses and also those purchasing such houses should take note of this, he said. 

He said that the government has settled the issue of Mayem Evacuee property occupants and will further give them justice by solving the pending issues of lands and fields. 

He also disclosed plans to construct infrastructure projects on the government land situated in Mayem. 

The Chief Minister disbursed 225 sanads to Mayem Evacuee property occupants. 

Sawant said that one individual will not be granted two sanads and appealed to them to cooperate with the government authorities. 

Mayem MLA Premendra Shet, Bicholim Deputy Collector Rohan Kaskar, ZP Member Shankar Chodankar, Mayem sarpanch Vidhyadhar Karbotkar, former Chodan-Madel sarpanch Premanand Mhambre and Mayem Bhu Vimochan Nagrik Kruti Samiti president Sakharam Pednekar were also present.

CM assures to exclude Lairai Temple area from Shirgao mining block 

BICHOLIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday assured the villagers of Shirgao that the government will exclude Lairai Temple area from the mining block and appealed to them not to oppose resumption of mining activities.

Speaking at a function at Mayem, Sawant appealed to the villagers not to fall prey to false propaganda and to refrain from opposing mining activity under Shirgao mining block fearing that property under Lairai Temple will be affected. The government is ready to exclude the Lairai Temple property belonging to the government from the mining block and transfer the land to the temple trust. 

Shree Devi Lairai Temple Trust had approached the High Court praying to restrain the government from e-auctioning Shirgao mining blocks I, II & III. The Chief Minister said that the process of granting ownership rights to people in the forest area is also underway. 

Mayem MLA Premendra Shet said that the developmental works are taking place in the constituency and appealed to the people to cooperate with the government.

Earlier, Shankar Chodankar welcomed the gathering and Vishwas Chodankar conducted the programme.
