A violent as sault involving bottles and a knife at a nightclub in Baga, Calangute, in the ear ly hours of Sunday left one person seriously injured. The incident occurred at around 5 am. A complaint has been lodged with the Calangute police, who have launched an investigation. The motive behind the at tack remains unclear. The victim, whose iden tity has not been disclosed pending inquiry, said he had gone to the club after being invited to a party by a friend. “We went to the club at around 4 am. There were four of us and we were sitting at the bar counter when a man came from behind and pushed me without any reason.
He then started threatening me with a knife, smashed a bottle on my head and attacked me with the knife,” the victim told re porters. According to the victim, the alleged attacker was part of a group of around 25 people and had previously been involved in another assault case. Club staff intervened and separated the groups, following which the accused fled the scene. The victim suffered serious injuries to his head, neck and back in the attack. He subsequently informed the police and was rushed to the district hospital in Mapusa before being shifted to the GMC in Bambolim for further treatment. Further investigation is underway.
