PORVORIM: The Opposition, including some Independent MLAs, has moved a no-confidence motion against Speaker Anant Shet following an adjournment motion moved by the Opposition being disallowed. A no-confidence motion against the government filed earlier will be taken up for discussion in the last week of the current session.
Led by Opposition Leader Pratapsingh Rane, the Opposition had moved an adjournment motion claiming large-scale infringement of their rights and privileges by the State government. The motion stated that they can’t take up burning issues related to the State on the floor of the House.
The Speaker refused to entertain the motion pending a similar no confidence motion moved by Opposition benches against the State government. Shet said the motion of no-confidence against the council of ministers would be taken up for discussion in the Assembly in the last week of the session, which ends on August 12.
He said the adjournment motion is ruled out as “financial business is being discussed during the current session, which attains priority”.
Addressing the media outside the House, Rane said, “On important questions, the answers are not given satisfactorily by the ministers. Under IPB you are violating all rules and the Act.” Rane was not allowed to ask supplementary questions to the issue raised by Independent MLA Rohan Khaunte on the IPB. “IPB is not in the interest of Goa and Goans, tomorrow it (State) should not be a big slum,” Rane said.
Independent MLA Vijai Sardesai said there is a state of undeclared emergency and people are being accused on the floor of the House for voicing the misdeeds of the government.
Congress MLA Vishwajit Rane alleged that IPB is a big scam and ownership and shares of the companies are being changed instantly once the project is approved by the board. “There is a need to investigate the entire board and the middlemen who are roaming with the files in the State secretariat,” he said. “Goa is being sold in the name of IPB, it is a tool to convert the land,” Vishwajit alleged.
