PANJIM: As the State approaches the Supreme Court’s (SC) deadline banning the sale of liquor along highways from April 1, the Excise Department – in a fresh decision – has decided not to grant or renew licenses to outlets owned by persons having a criminal record.
“As per amended provisions of Rule 90 of the Goa Excise Duty Rules 1964, Rule 90 (4) (h) now mandates that no licence or renewal of licence shall be granted to the applicant who is having criminal record or criminal case registered against him under any law for the time being in force,” states a circular issued by Commissioner Menino D’Souza on Wednesday.
The circular, also asks licencees to submit police clearance report to respective Excise Inspectors within six months from the date of issue of license renewal.
