VASCO: Following a complaint from the citizens as well as administration officials that the stalls at Saptah fair venue continue even after the fair officially closed on Thursday, Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Chief Officer Deepali Naik on Friday assured the Council would take all possible steps to ensure that all stalls are removed by Saturday since no extension has been given to the Saptah fair.
According to Naik during the meeting called to chalk out arrangements for Saptah fair, MMC had adopted a resolution that fair would be restricted only for the seven days after which the Swatantrapath Road in Vasco which is been blocked for vehicular traffic would be opened. As per MMC resolution, Saptah fair officially concluded on Thursday night and Swatantrapath road in Vasco was opened for traffic movement. However, she received complaints that stalls at the Saptah fair venue are not yet removed and are obstructing free flow of traffic.
“After receiving complaints, I immediately issued directions to our staff to ensure that all stall operators located on the Swatantrapath road in Vasco (except for furniture stalls) should be asked to vacate their stalls immediately so that traffic movement becomes easy and without any disruption. Similarly the stall owners having their stalls on other internal lanes at Saptah venue had asked for one day time for winding up their goods and stalls. Considering their request I have issued directions that all other stalls across Saptah fair venue should also be compulsorily removed by Saturday failing which MMC would take severe action for non compliance of directions,” Naik said.
