Though both, the former chief minister and the present one, had promised more sets, MCI has not cleared the seat increase.
As part of the hospital’s initiatives, an extension in the number of seats for the MBBS degree course, along with a development of the existing infrastructure and faculty were planned. However, with no permissions from the MCI yet, GMC Dean Dr Pradeep Naik said they would not extend the number of seats this academic session.
“We have not received the approval yet and we haven’t received any requests to reduce our seats from the MCI. We are still awaiting permissions from them following which we will receive a go ahead from the Ministry of Health and then the Education Department. Only then can we increase the number of seats. For the moment it is as it has been in the past,” said Naik.
It may be recalled that GMC had applied for an extension in the number of seats by 50 for the MBBS degree and a subsequent increase in the post graduate degrees but with the added infrastructural work still underway, the proposed increase will have to wait.
