CAVELOSSIM: Cyclone Tauktae on Sunday wrecked utter havoc in the Salcete coastal villages of Cavelossim, Carmona and surrounding areas uprooting trees and electricity poles disrupting power supply to the residents of the coastal villages that went without electricity for two days.
A Cavelossim hotelier Dixon Vaz disclosed, “A huge mango tree was uprooted and collapsed onto three cars and two bikes besides also damaging a house in Cavelossim.”
Cavelossim sarpanch Dionizio “Denis’ Dias remarked, “The stormy weather in Cavelossim damaged the power lines. There was no power supply till Monday afternoon 3 pm with efforts made to restore the power supply from the Benaulim sub-station.”
Carmona sarpanch Allwyn Jorge stated, “The whole Carmona village had no power supply for two days/nights. Also, today (Monday, May 17), there’s no power supply for the second day as the transmission lines are damaged in Velim. Trees were uprooted and branches fell onto electricity lines disrupting the power supply. Some compound walls were also damaged, besides, the GI sheets and roof tiles of the houses were displaced and blown off with the strong winds.”
