Many tourists have started visiting the area to enjoy its natural beauty and get drenched in the water. However, there are no safety measures for them or their vehicles.
The parking space made available to them is prone to frequent landslides, which often destroy their vehicles. A hill has been cut to make place for parking, but there is no retaining wall. Mud slides down on the parked cars, and during the monsoons, even trees come crashing down.
“The government should have built a retaining wall near the parking place and all the trees should have been cut so that the cars are not damaged,” said Sagar Parwar from Harvalem, adding, “Electricity poles and wires are almost everywhere in the parking place. If they fall, there are chances of all the cars being gutted.”
When Herald visited the site, a few trees had fallen on the electricity wires, but neither the electricity department nor any other authority had paid any attention to the issue. The area near the waterfall and the temple was renovated some years back, but now everything is in shambles.
“No one is paying attention to this and the people have to suffer hardships. The entire area comes under the Sanquelim Municipal Council. It should provide better facilities and upgrade the area,” said Parwar.
