PANJIM: The members of the North Goa Rent-A-Cab Association have threatened to take law into their hands if the Transport Department fails to withdraw the notice prohibiting rent-a-cars from operating from airport and railway stations within eight days. The Association representatives met the Deputy Director of Transport and submitted a charter of their demands.

It may be recalled that the Directorate of Transport, Goa had issued a notice February 20 prohibiting rent-a-cars from operating from Airport and Railway stations. The notice has enraged the stakeholders, prompting them to urgently meet the Deputy Director of Transport with their grievance.
The members unequivocally stated that the notice served is illegal and reasserted that they have a right to operate rent-a-car vehicles from any location in the State.
The Association has warned the Transport Department to withdraw the notice within eight days or else the stakeholders and those dependent on the business will take law into their hands.
The members said that the rules of operating the rent-a-car were framed in 2019 which allow them to operate from anywhere and that the new rules will put them in deep trouble.
Nitesh Chodankar, president of North Goa rent-a-cab Association said, “Despite conveying their opposition to the notice, the Deputy Director proceeded by issuing the notice. He has gone wrong. We should have been given some notice to place our version.”
Chodankar said that there is no rule stopping rent-a-cars from operating from any airports or railway stations.
