PANJIM: After the Class X record pass percentage, Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHE) set another milestone with 99.40 per cent of the Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) students clearing the Class XII for the year 2021 based on their performance over the last three years – that is from Class X to pre-Board exams.
In all 18,085 students of the 18,195 that had registered for the Class XII cleared the year with a pass percentage of 99.40. While 75 students were categorised in the need improvement category, the results of another 35 students were held back over non-submission of eligible documents with regard to the other school boards and absence of internal practical marks.

Keeping to the annual trend, the results saw girls outshine the boys with an overall pass percentage of 99.74 per cent with 9163 getting promoted out of 9187.
On the other hand, 8922 boys cleared the assessment at a passing percentage of 99.05 percent. Total 9008 boys had registered.
Due to the unprecedented situation arising due to Covid-19 in the State, following directions from the government, GBSHSE had cancelled the Class XII board examination and the students were assessed based on the objective criterion developed by the Board as per which 40 per cent of the marks were based on the performance of students in Class XII pre-Board exams, 30 per cent of their Class XI final exams and 30 per cent marks on the best of the three Class X subject marks.
Result committees across all 106 higher secondary schools were formed to evaluate the students and prepare the result.
Declaring the result, Board Chairman Bhagirath Shetye said that 99.40 pass percentage is the highest after the 99.70 result of Class X, this year.
Last year, 89.72 per cent students had cleared the Board exams, while in 2019, it was 89.59 per cent.
Students, who are not satisfied with the result, will be given an opportunity to appear for an offline exam, which Goa Board intends to conduct as expeditiously as possible, Shetye said.
“The 75 students who could not make it will have to answer the supplementary exam that the Board will conduct,” Shetye said, adding that the supplementary exam will take place after August 15.
The vocational stream with 36 failed students had the highest failures, followed by arts with 22, commerce with 12 and Science saw the least of five failed candidates.
Nearly 9682 students scored between 60 and 80 per cent marks, while 5583 students obtained between 46 and 59 per cent marks. There are 1960 students who scored above 80 per cent.
The science stream saw the maximum pass percentage of 99.68 followed by commerce that saw 99.66 per cent passing out. Around 99.39 per cent of the students cleared the arts stream while vocational saw 98.51 per cent pass out.
Shetye said that the process of verification of marks and re-evaluation scheme will not be applicable, since the results are based on internal assessment.
The talukas of Sanguem, Sattari and Canacona obtained cent per cent result.
