With a view to enhance capabilities of its force, Goa police plans to impart the National Security Guard (NSG) training to its personnel.
Director General of Police Bhim Sain Bassi has suggested increasing his force to 5,000 as against the present 2000 who would be trained by NSG commandos. The recommendation has been sent to the government.
A team of nearly 40 police personnel is meanwhile undergoing a two-day seminar (July 16-17) on ‘Interactive Seminar for Investigating Officers of Goa’ in association with the Central Forensic Science Laboratory, Hyderabad.
Stating that change in socio-economic pattern has influenced criminals to adopt new techniques, DGP Bassi opined that the seminar would provide an opportunity to thoroughly deal with cases.
The police chief said that his men lacked proper training and to overcome this, the department has launched in-service trainings for its staff within and outside the state.
The present seminar meanwhile, has CFSL experts in the fields of DNA, Explosive, Computer Forensic, Ballistics, Toxicology & narcotic drugs. Bassi said the seminar would enable its officials to use scientific tools investigations.
“…It is the responsibility of both the investigating agencies and forensic science laboratories to join hands to stress upon scientific evidences which can withstand the negative factors associated with low conviction rate,” a press said.
