MARGAO: The BSNL has blamed the poor mobile connectivity to the objections raised by locals to installation of towers in their neighbourhood, saying that an amount of over Rs 35 lakh is blocked on account of objections to the 5-6 towers under construction in South Goa.
Even as South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar along with Benaulim MLA Caitu Silva insisted on toning up the mobile connectivity along Salcete’s coastal belt, besides the hinterland talukas of Sanguem and Canacona, BSNL officials attributed the connectivity problem to the objections raised by locals to the construction of mobile towers. The BSNL officials further urged the MP to cooperate on the issue of land acquisitions and take up with the government the manpower requirements in Goa region.
After the interaction with the BSNL officials, Sawaikar told the media that objections by locals to the 5-6 mobile towers have caused a loss of over Rs 35 lakh to the BSNL. “Apart from the losses, the situation has hit connectivity in the district”, Sawaikar said.
The South Goa MP urged BSNL to tone up the customer service cell and treat customer as god in the age of competition. “Many towers are not being put to use because of objections. The people should cooperate with BSNL as towers will overcome connectivity problems faced by customers”, he added.
The Benaulim MLA took up the issue of the poor condition of the exchange at Carmona and demanded action. BSNL officials assured to shift the exchange to a new premises at the earliest.
