PANJIM: Reacting to the recent bill passed in the Lok Sabha offering untrained teacher’s time until March 31, 2019 to acquire BEd or DEd qualification to hold their jobs, Goa Headmaster’s Association (GHA) said it was serious lapse on the part of the government while appointing untrained teachers.
Speaking to Herald, GHA President Vithoba Desai said, “This circular is good, but there are lapses on the part of the government when they appointed untrained teachers. The teachers need rigorous training, just obtaining a certificate to protect the job is eyewash.”
He added, “Actually after a certain number of years, the teacher need not go for training, he/she becomes an experienced and mature teacher. Even if it is an unaided school, there are rules which needs to be followed while appointing teachers.”
There are 426 untrained teachers in Goa most of whom are teaching in unaided schools.
Directorate of Education (DoE) has asked aided and recognised unaided primary schools to get their untrained in-service teachers enrolled on SWAYAM portal by September 15 to complete the two-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D El Ed) course.
