MAPUSA: Mapusa Police on Wednesday arrested an Odisha man for allegedly killing a Kolkata native in the town.
According to Mapusa PI Vijaykumar Chodankar, the PCR received a call at 12.45 pm on Wednesday informing that three people were involved in a fight near a studio at Mapusa. On reaching the spot, the police found that the male lying on ground had succumbed to his injuries and the female had sustained injuries to her hand.
The deceased has been identified as 30-year-old Rahul Bangali, native of Kolkata. A murder case was registered and a search operation was launched to nab the accused based on the details provided by the female. Later, within an hour, the Mapusa Police managed to nab the accused 45-year-old Pitambar Mallik, a native of Odisha near the Bodgini Temple.
Police informed that all the three persons were daily wage workers and were staying in Mapusa. However they use to sit near the studio most of the time. According to available information, on Wednesday morning, a quarrel had erupted between the accused and the deceased. Later in the afternoon, there was a heated argument wherein Pitambar hit Rahul with a wooden stick causing him serious head injury which led to his death.
The accused has been booked under Sections 302 and 307 of Indian Penal Code. PI Vijaykumar Chodankar is investigating the case.
