CANACONA, JUNE 8 Canacona police has arrested one Dominic Fernandes in connection with the collapse of the well under construction at Agonda.

Canacona police has arrested one Dominic Fernandes in connection with the collapse of the well under construction at Agonda.
It may be recalled that two persons were buried alive, while two were saved in an overnight intense operation by National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and other agencies like Canacona Fire Service and Canacona Municipality Disaster Management team, besides assistance provided by locals.
According to police sources, Fernandes was called at the police station to record his statement in the well collapse incident at Agonda.
Police sources informed that Fernandes, in whose property the collapsed well was allegedly constructed, has been booked under Section 304 (a) of IPC and was arrested on Tuesday morning. However, he was later released on submission of a personal bond.
Govt announces compensation: Chief Minister Digambar Kamat has declared an ex-gratia of Rs 1 lakh each to the next of kin of two deceased labourers, Sukdo Velip and Kamlakar Velip, who were buried alive under the landslide.
According to reports, Kamat also announced Rs 25,000 each to the two injured labourers rescued from the collapsed well from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
The rescued labourers are Narayan Pagi and Prakash Velip.
