MAPUSA: Patients and doctors at the Asilo Hospital in Peddem, Mapusa, can finally heave a sigh of relief from the stink caused by the overflowing sewage water within the campus.
After Herald reported the issue, officials got their acts together and stopped the overflow temporarily by clearing the blockage in the pipeline.
Records reveal that over 30,000 patients visit the hospital every month and they were severely inconvenienced due to the overflow of sewage water right at the entrance/parking lot of the hospital. The accumulated water had become a breeding ground for mosquitoes and consequently a health hazard.
Dr Geeta Kakodkar, Asilo medical superintendent, told Herald that “The sewage overflow was caused by blockage in pipeline which is temporarily solved. This was one of the major problems that the authorities are trying to get rid of.”
“Currently, we have removed the blockage in the pipeline, but to get the problem solved permanently, we will revamp the STP tank. Estimate to revamp the STP plant is already drawn and forwarded to the Public Works Department for administrative approval. Work of the same will be taken up by the PWD Div V as soon as the approval is received,” she said.
She said that the hospital has been facing several infrastructural problems and the same are being taken up one by one on priority, in consultation with the PWD.
