PANJIM: Goa Government Employees Association (GGEA) has written to Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar alleging risk to patients visiting Hospicio Hospital as Group D employees have been directed to various duties which do not fall within their purview.
“The staff of Hospicio Hospital has brought to the association’s notice that the Directorate of Health Services had issued a circular on the basis of government OM dated 21/11/2016 and allotted duties enlisted in the circular dated 20/01/17 to Group D employees in order to grant paying band of Rs 5200-20200+ grade pay of Rs 1800 and forcing the employees to perform the work which they are not specialized with thereby putting the lives of numerous patients to great risk,” GGEA President John Nazareth said.
“The purpose of the government behind the issuing of circular is to redesignate the employees in multi-tasking and familiarise and create awareness of all the work which pertains to Group D employees. The other purpose behind imparting training could be also to meet the exigencies in case of emergency situation. However, it has been observed that the provisions have been totally misinterpreted by DHS and the medical superintendent to harass the Group D employees and owing to which the hospital is putting the patients to great risk,” Nazareth added.
GGEA has further said that unlike the Group D posts in other departments, the work of Group D posts in the hospitals are very sensitive and they are required to develop necessary expertise to handle the patients and the lives of the patients, and have demanded directives to DHS to stop playing with lives of patients by misinterpreting the provisions of the Government OM dated 21/11/2016.
