MARGAO: While the revenue officials completed the sealing process within an hour, representatives of the firm The Axis cried foul over the sealing of their plots.
Speaking at newsmen at the site, Mohammed Irshad demanded to know why the firm is being prosecuted when they had taken possession of the land from State Bank of India via an auction. He made a startling revelation that none of the concerned authorities, including the SBI, told them that hazardous waste was lying inside the plots. “This hazardous waste belonged to Ms Sunrise Zinc and not to The Axis. I fail to understand how they can seal Plot No 3 when the waste is stacked in Plot no 2”, he said.
Irshad further pointed out that the GSPCB had even granted the firm the consent to establish to start a non-pollution industry at the Industrial estate.
“This is injustice on us. We started our operations because we were given the consent to operate”, he added.
Incidentally, the SBI, Stressed Assets Management branch, Mumbai in its auction notice had given description of the immovable property in the two plots as land and buildings admeasuring 20,000 sq mts and stock of raw materials, consumables, stock in process and finished goods lying in the factory premises. “Nowhere, the SBI mentioned that hazardous waste was stacked inside the plots”, Irshad added.
