A sitting panch and a former panch of Bastora panchayat have been arrested by Mapusa police on charges of assaulting a couple near the Asilo hospital at Mapusa on Friday night.The accused, Savio Martins (panch) and Sandip Polgi (former panch), allegedly assaulted Umakant Pratap Dhargalkar of Peddem-Mapusa over a petty issue.According to police, Dhargalkar and his wife had gone to the Milagres fair and had parked their car near the Asilo hospital.
Dhargalkar requested the accused to move their car in order to enable him remove his car from the parking lot, when the duo assaulted Dhargalkar and his wife.The accused have been booked under Sections 323, 504, 506 (II) r/w 34 IPC.Mapusa PI Manjunath Dessai is investigating the case under the supervision of DySP Sammy Tavares.
