PANJIM: In the wake of accidents on Atal Setu, the reconstituted North Goa District Road Safety Committee has recommended a review of the traffic movement plan below Atal Sethu at the exit of Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited (KTCL) bus stand, Panjim to identify road safety issues. 

The committee chaired by Additional Collector (I) Sanjeev Gauns Desai along with Member Secretary Superintending Engineer Circle Office IX (NH) PWD Panjim Allan Pereira held its first meeting on Tuesday where several traffic-related issues were discussed.

The committee has also resolved to request the State government to fast-track estimates approvals and sanctions prepared by PWD for the installation of speed breakers, zebra crossings and the speed limit signage in the public interest of road safety; to identify all hoardings, vehicles used to display mounted advertisements which are a threat to road safety at the taluka level; install additional signboards ahead of the entrance of Atal Setu on the Porvorim and Merces sides so that the two-wheeler riders are alerted in advance that their entry is not permitted among others. 

The Education Department has further been requested to get compliance with the formation of the Children Transport Committee in all schools through the respective Assistant Director of Education Inspectors (ADEIS).
