Panjim Residents Meet Mayor, Seek CCP Resolution Against Proposed New River Casino

Concerned citizens from Panjim on Monday met City Corporation of Panjim (CCP) Mayor Rohit Monserrate and the Commissioner to submit a letter opposing the proposed introduction of a new casino vessel on the Mandovi river.

The residents urged the civic body to pass a council resolution against the proposed casino, citing social, environmental and civic concerns. Responding to the delegation, Mayor Rohit Monserrate said that he personally does not support casinos and assured that the appeal would be placed before the CCP Council for discussion. However, he clarified that the corporation has no jurisdiction over the licensing of river casinos, as this authority rests with other government departments. The Mayor added that the CCP’s role is limited to issuing trade licences for offices located on land, and not for casino operations.
