Parents and Villagers Protest Over Toilet Inside Classroom in Ponda School, Demand Safe Facilities

Around 250 parents, former students, and villagers gathered at the Government Primary School (GPS) premises in Ponda to protest against a toilet constructed inside a classroom, citing concerns over student safety and hygiene.

The protest comes after objections from the school’s landlord prevented the construction of the toilet outside the classroom, forcing parents to install it inside the learning space.

During the protest, five key resolutions were passed:

  1. Parents and villagers pledged to construct the toilet outside the classroom within one month to ensure students’ safety and health.
  2. An old tree leaning dangerously near the school will be cut down.
  3. A protest and potential school boycott will be staged if the toilet is not relocated.
  4. Delegates plan to meet the Chief Minister on Tuesday to discuss the issue.
  5. A formal demand was made for police action against the landlord for alleged abuse and disputes regarding the property.

Parents and community members emphasized that creating a safe and healthy educational environment is their top priority and called for swift action from authorities.
