PANJIM: The Old Goa police on Sunday arrested a woman from Parra on the charge of duping a job aspirant to the tune of Rs 40,000.
The police gave the name of the accused as Laura alias Lyne Fernandes (45) from Parra. The accused projected herself as a recruitment agent and influenced and induced the complainant to pay money on the pretext of providing him a job. The accused took then took his passport and cheated him for an amount of Rs 40,000. James, a resident of Merces had lodged his complaint stating that the accused cheated him from December 2022 to May this year. The accused gave him an air ticket to go to Malaysia but a return ticket in somebody’s name, which made him suspicious
But when inquired why he was given air ticket in somebody’s name, the accused gave evasive replies, the complainant said. Meanwhile, the accused has been remanded in four days police custody by the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Panjim.
A case has been registered against Laura Fernandes under section 406 and 42o0 of IPC and PSI Laureen Sequeira is conducting investigations.
