PANJIM: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Monday assured an amicable solution to the truck owners’ demand for a hike in the iron ore transportation rate.
Parrikar on Monday chaired a meeting attended by MGP Sanvordem MLA Deepak Pawaskar on behalf of the truck owners and Goa Mineral Ore Exporters Association (GMOEA), to find a solution to the demand for a hike in transportation rates as proposed by the truck owners, ahead of the commencement of the new season next month.
“We will resolve the issue,” Parrikar told Herald, refusing to disclose details of the meeting.
Sources said the Chief Minister has assured an amicable solution to the issue, which will be resolved before the new season, taking into consideration diesel rates, profit by mining companies, etc.
Truck owners are demanding between Rs 14and 17 per tonne per kilometrr as against the current rate of Rs 7 to Rs 11 per tonne per kilometre. The truck owners claim that with such a low freight rate, the business not viable.
