PANJIM: Chief Minister and Home Minister Manohar Parrikar on Friday said that cases of crimes against women will be taken up on fast track, both from the investigative and judicial side.
He said this in the post question hour session in the Goa Assembly where legislators put forth private member resolutions. Parrikar said that investigations in rape cases would be fast tracked and the police would be directed to file chargesheets at the earliest and close the cases within five to six months, through a separate mechanism.
“I will take up this matter with the High Court,” he said, by suggesting taking up cases on daily basis and increasing working hours of the JMFC.
“It is important to fast track investigations and for the judiciary to give fast judgements,” he said.
Curtorim MLA Alexio Reginaldo Lourenco who moved the resolution said there were endless cases still pending investigation and orders and the government should transfer them to the CBI and fast track courts to which Parrikar said JMFC has no provision to fast track cases and neither can CBI handle such cases due to work overload but he would work out some mechanism.”
The chief minister said that 16 cases during the previous government regime have been registered during his tenure.
Replying to another resolution, the government has been urged to start separate intercity and rural area KTCL buses for department was not too keen on this as an earlier exercise had failed, it has agreed to re-start the same on a trial basis. Chief Minister Parrikar felt that the transport department should work out a system of reserving a separate bay in the buses for women as is done in Tamil Nadu and 50 per cent of seats should be reserved for women during peak hours while responding to a matter raised by Valpoi MLA Vishwajit Rane
