PERNEM: Parsem locals on Thursday stopped the work of laying of Internet cables in the village as they claimed that the contractor carried out the digging work in a haphazard manner from Chopdem to Parsem.
Villagers alleged that on account of the contractor’s negligence the workers carried out the work haphazardly due to which the protection wall by the roadside got damaged and rainwater entered their houses.

People claimed that since the past four days muddy water entered their houses, which weakened the mud walls. People further claimed that the contractor was supposed to carry out proper soiling and hotmixing but failed to do so.
“For the last four days digging work is underway and we thought that they must have got the required permission but today when we questioned the workers, they failed to produce any document. The road from Parsem to Chopdem was in a very good condition but this work has damaged the road and the local panchayat is not aware of this”, ZP former member Deepak Kalangutkar said.
The locals informed that the work of laying of internet cables is a state government project and the local MLA has given permission on emergency basis to provide internet to the village students for their online classes.
Locals alleged that local MLA is least bothered about the village and is more interested in laying foundation stone.
People said the work should have been taken up before monsoon.
Meanwhile, a worker at the site said, “It’s a Goa Government project where underground Internet cables will be laid in each village to help the students with their online classes.”
