MARGAO: Margao Municipal Council (MMC) has decided to recover all overdue amounts from the municipal garden fencing advertisements contractor.
In a meeting on Wednesday, MMC also decided get back all its rented premises in the town and empower the Chief Officer to take the right course of action in the case of the properties.
The meeting also discussed various pending matters. The MMC had lately discovered that the Class I Municipal Council had properties around town in form of premises, structures and lands. It was discussed that these properties have been used by occupants for years with very little benefit to the MMC. Several premises and lands have been misused too.
Chairperson Babita Angle said MMC would give powers to the Chief Officer to recover the properties and decide on the further course of action.
MMC was recently been jolted with a High Court notice directing to pay more than Rs 1.7 crore against an arbitration matter pertaining to Gandhi Market. MMC has been informed that the matter is as old at 1983 and the interest on the earlier arbitration has inflated the figure.
The Court has sought depositing of at least half the money as bank guarantee in the matter. The MMC has decided to reply to the Court and also seek negotiation on the prescribed amount.
The Council has also decided to hold a special meeting to have decisive discussion on the matter of segregation of waste from Margao.
MMC’s Sanitary Inspector Viraj Arabekar has prepared a report on Margao garbage situation and a report would be adopted at the special meeting for further execution of the segregated waste supply to the plant.
“There have been complaints from the Councillors that honest attempts of people have failed as garbage collectors ultimately mixed the garbage. This will also be considered when we go for complete segregation,” the Chairperson said.
MMC has also decided to buy a compactor truck, a bailing machine and three grass cutters from the 14th Finance Commission grant.
The council has decided to recover all the dues pending from the contractor of the advertisement at MMC Garden.
It was revealed that the contractor has been paying a minuscule amount to the MMC while earning a lot on the advertisements.
The MMC will now begin recovery of the monies pending from the advertisement contractor.
