PANJIM: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said that Goa’s revenue collection has grown by 22 percent, while the tourism industry has seen an 18-20 percent growth.
“In spite of an initial set back in the GST collection, its compliance it slowly picking up. Goa’s revenue collection has grown by 22 percent. The tourism sector too has increased by 18-20 percent,” he said at a press conference on the first year of demonetisation.
Parrikar also claimed that nearly all government transactions will be digitised by the end of this financial year. “By March 2018, virtually all government transactions will be digitised. The receipts will be converted to digital mode,” he said, adding that 90-95 percent transactions will be digitised. However, he added that digital mode might not be feasible in some areas.
As defense minister last November, Parrikar had stated that Goa is on its way to become India’s first cashless society. “This would fulfill dream of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is pushing for a cashless society through the demonetisation scheme, which is also aimed at curbing the menace of black money. Goans are using cards (ATM/credit) in a big way. Goa will soon be the first state with cashless society fulfilling a dream of the Prime Minister,” he was quoted as saying.
